My Unbroken Hero

I didn't want you to stoop so low
Though your gentle grip was amazingly tight
I thought you were eventually going to let me go
But I finally realized you were holding on to me for dear life

My gratitude does not out-weigh my guilt
For I don't know what it's like to remain strong
Every time I try and stand up I always need to be held
So I know a person cannot keep that tough-act up for long

I wish the tables can soon be turned / my hidden courage needs to be found
The hope you gave me will be returned / to stop your tears from hitting the ground

I know your smiles are forced sometimes / you always have to watch your words
I can feel the suffering that your hiding / so no one will know that you're badly hurt

I need to, I want to, I have to take on your responsibility for a while, so you can recover
So please lean on me, and put everything on me, I swear I can handle it, you have my shoulder

Now it's your turn to feel a hopeful embrace; let me heal you like you did for me in the past
I want you to empty your heavy heart onto me; let it all go, so this breath won't be your last

Rest your weary soul on mine
Give me your rough hands to hold
Let those chains of memories unbind
And don't let your cries stutter anymore

Don't let it hold you back
You can't keep it locked within
I refuse to let you become trapped
I will make sure your wounds won't reopen

Someone else's pain can turn the tides / the time has come for us to switch sides
I've seen those years worth of tears in your eyes / we need to help each other survive

I know I can never be as strong and kind as you / I'm going to give it my all
But I owe you everything, and that's nothing but the truth / I won't let you fall

Don't be afraid to hold onto me; don't be scared to cling, because I'm here for your rescue
Take all the time that you need, because I know your restoration has been long past due

You've carried all of this with you for too long now, this should have been done sooner
Because every one of us needs a savior in life, and you will always be my unbroken hero
Sometimes... the hero needs a hero for themselves
And a time will come when they will need -your- help

Hi, i just wanted to say i thought your poem was beautiful, and i'm wondering if you would be interested in submitting it to a magazine i'm involved with. Our theme this month is "Heroes", and this could fit in well as we are looking for any and all interpretations of that theme. So if you'd be willing to submit this or any other work you've done, then it'd be great if you could check out my journal for more info, and for the email address for literature submissions :) [link]

Thank you!

I kept the ending the same as in the first version. I really love the ending too. I'm glad it has that effect on others than myself. Thank you. <3

As a poem, this is awful. And fix the I can feel the suffering that your hiding / so no one will know that your badly hurt, where it's you're, and never your. Bad grammar in literature makes me sad.

He sure did not... Frankly, even if they exist or not, I don't think they give a flying fuck about who's fucking who. Now go bother someone else.
